Walk for Wishes: A Family Outing

This time last year, moving trucks were relocating 300 employees to Las Colinas. However, my son and I were busy doing more important things, participating in the 2012 Walk for Wishes 5K. As we ran past the Urban Towers we waved at the C-ball logo and the new tenant sign welcoming Celanese to the neighborhood. We even saw a few of the trucks making their way around the race.

When I heard that Celanese was sponsoring the Walk for Wishes this year, I was excited to see what had become a personal family tradition for me was now going to be an opportunity to interact outside of the office with my extended Celanese family. I wouldn’t be able to run this year, as I was seven months pregnant with another son on the way, but our family was thrilled to walk. Over 100 employees and their families participated in the event. It was easy to pick out Team Celanese with our TruModa® brand neon yellow t-shirts!

The t-shirts also made it easier for me to keep track of my energetic two-year-old who loved walking around and looking at the water sculpture in Williams Square where the race began and ended.


I would be lying if I told you our family completed the entire 5K walk. We managed to complete two-thirds of the race, but it was too tempting for us to turn around at one of the stop signs near the Irving Convention Center. Little man just wasn’t happy with a walk where you don’t stop and explore every landmark, so we offered a protein bar and a free ride back in the stroller. No baby was delivered during the family walk (to Mark Oberle’s relief!) but I’m sure if it had happened it would have made a great addition to this blog post.

The weather was a little chilly, but the sun was out and nothing could spoil the team’s enthusiasm. Some chose to walk, others ran and everyone left with the satisfaction of doing something fun for a worthy cause! Celanese raised $11, 775 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas who help grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions, enriching the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

    Thanks and sorry for the delayed response! Evan, our newest addition arrived the Friday after this blog was posted. I wore this t-shirt all summer and it hasn”t faded a bit. What a great quality t-shirt!
