When you think of chemistry, the first thing that comes to mind is science. However, a group of chemical students from South East China University of Science and Technology (SECUST) gave a different answer – chemistry is romantic!
This is the second year that Celanese has participated in the National University Chemical Video Contest, this time partnering with Mumian Pie (Kapok pie,) a team of three SECUST chemical engineering students. The contest is jointly organized by the Association of Intentional Chemical Manufacturers, the Chinese Chemical Society and Peking University. This year more than 120 videos were submitted from 80 universities.
Celanese and Mumian Pie worked together to produce a video with the theme of chemistry in the future. The story begins with a girl who never grows old walking into the future where her lover is waiting for her. They meet and then walk together in a loving world made out of plastics. The chemical reaction between these two lovers forms a future built upon recyclable engineering plastics.
The students share how plastics are the future to an all-purpose, safe and environment friendly life. In addition, the team’s focus on chemistry being romantic showcases the connections made between people and the special relationships they share. This philosophy aligns with Celanese’s new brand, The Chemistry Inside Innovation.
The video experienced a high volume of social media traffic, with more than 168,000 views on Sina Weibo, China’s microblogging site. The judges recognized the team with the premier award in the category of communications.
