My name is Taylor Jensen. I have been an intern in the Human Resources department since January, and will continue this wonderful journey until April 3. I am excited to share with you my experiences and what I have learned in this role for the past nine weeks and counting.
Since the first day of my internship, I have frequently been asked: What do you want out of your internship, what do you expect, what do you want to do, and what do you think about your internship so far? Is it what I expected?
From the beginning I have wanted to learn as much as I could about the “corporate world” and Celanese as a company. I wanted to learn what goes on behind the scenes and what a Human Resources employee actually does; in short, to get the big picture. I wanted a valuable experience allowing me to gain as much new knowledge as possible. So far, that is exactly what I have experienced.
In just the span of nine weeks, I have been able to get hands-on experiences and knowledge pertaining to multiple areas of employee service, computer skills and active collaboration. I’ve also been able to create peer relationships and connect with others, push my creativity, gain an understanding of company values, and learn how to improve employee and leadership skills. But most importantly, I was pushed outside of my comfort zone.
What I didn’t realize though, was not only would I be learning about my “job,” but also about the core values and culture that makes this company what it is and what it has become. I have had the privilege of being able to witness and be immersed in the culture. Celanese has provided me insight, direction and the learning experiences I have desired since day one.
What has left such an impact on me are the relationships and connections that go on inside as well as outside my job. This may be cliché, but Celanese is like one large “family” in my eyes. There are constant connections occurring every day and each individual brings something personally unique to their role.
This internship has provided me more than I could possibly imagine, and will leave me with new values, insight, knowledge, for my future.
